Fantasy Island for the mystery set! This isn't Agatha Christie's typical who-dunnit mystery. Half the people that come to "investigator" Parker Pyne for help are just bored. Makes sense since that's who he advertises for, those who are unhappy and don't know what to do about it. So, his clients are often people with money who want someone else to make life interesting again for them...That is difficult for me to swallow. I come from a background where money had to be hard-earned, penny by penny.A collection of odd and frequently amusing little stories. The 'mystery' classification isn't quite right, but that comes closest.
A solid 3.5. A dozen short stories where a middle aged retired civil servant called Parker Pyne investigates and resolves peoples unhappiness. He advertises in newspapers Are you happy? If not, consult me Parker Pyne. The stories are a mixture of fantasy, crime and psychology is used to resolve their unhappiness. The stories are initially set in England. The later ones are set in Syria, Egypt, Iraq and Iran where Parker Pyne while on holiday keeps finding new clients. Some of the stories are

On the final pages, when we reach the oracle, we...wait, some background info first. This is my 39th Dame Agatha read. This work feels odd in many ways: 1) the titular detective is completely flat and sometimes unnoticed by other characters, but perhaps this allows Pyne to travel incognito and was an intentional characteristic drawn that way by Christie; 2) as another reviewer noted, this book feels like a set of episodes from the 1970's monster TV hit show, Fantasy Island, but let's not forget
or does not, as in much of this book. Agatha Christies Parker Pyne Investigates is a collection of fourteen short stories featuring, as detective (a term applied somewhat loosely in several of these stories) C Parker Pyne. A retired government employee who has spent his life working with statistics, Parker Pyne has come to the conclusion that all human happiness (and unhappiness) can be categorized, sifted, dealt with in a logical way. He therefore advertises in the newspaper: Are you happy? If
I have to confess, I have never read a great deal of Agatha Christie's stand alone book's. I adore her Poriot and Marple, and a few of her well known stand alone' s. This is the first time I have read this book, and absolutely loved it. Mr. Parker Pyne is wonderful unique character who wants people to be happy. He advertisers in the paper asking for people who are not happy to come to him for help.I enjoyed every short story in this collection. I find myself wishing she has written more Parker
This was a delightful set of short stories. They start light hearted and then work their way up to murder. Parker Pyne is a former civil servant who thinks he has figured out life. He believes that all problems come in four types and he thinks he can fix anything. By the end of the third story, you really believe he can. The first half is just him solving problems and making people happy - there are no real crimes. The last half there are crimes. The last half PP also seems to be travelling.
