Description As Books Soul to Take
Vicky is desperate to make her mark, in a world which just doesn't seem to notice her.Silence and smiles hide the pain that Nell is keeping to herself.
Sarah's dreams of having a family seem hopeless.
And then there's Shannon, who's in trouble at school yet again.
But what these four women don't know is that someone - or something - is watching them.
A much-recycled soul, suspended between one life and the next, realises that Vicky, Nell, Sarah and Shannon are embarking on their journey towards Motherhood. As memories from past incarnations return to this Soul, it becomes clear that one of these women will be chosen to guide it once more.
Soul to take explores what it is to become a parent and considers the possibility that actually, our children are the ones who carefully select us.

A group I'm in recommended this book to me, telling me it is a 'hidden gem'.I guess I thought I'd give it a go as it was my first goodreads recommendation.I doubt I'll get a better recommendation if I'm on here for the rest of my life! It's not just the fact that it's a good book. More the fact that I'd never have found it if someone hadn't recommended it to me.The Author (a new Indie well worth watching) writes in a really interesting style. It's not a long book, but it doesn't waste any timeI have often read in my flakey New Age readings that Souls between lives sort of "hang out" with the prospective new parents immediately before and during a pregnancy. Well here is an excellent short novel that speculates on the Soul observing and possibly choosing parents. Bateman has wonderful character development and she has provided an interesting contrast between the lives of the prospective couples and the Soul's last few incarnations. Bateman wisely avoids getting caught up in any kind
I'm into my Jojo Moyes, Sophie Kinsella, Rainbow Rowell type of books and found this short novel by Helen Bateman to be most pleasing. If you're into similar styles I recommend you give this a go. The book is well-written, challenging in places and easy to read in others - a really nice blend.Highly recommend!

I usually read 2 or 3 books at a time and am no different at the moment. I decided to read We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves and Soul to Take.I cannot give a better compliment to this book than the fact that i stopped reading 'We are all completely beside ourselves'. I just wanted to see how this was going to end so much. The way this story takes you around the characters means you are always struggling to put it away. One more chapter... You see the name of the next chapter and it is like
A lovely story. As a mother myself I feel this book really captures some of the highs, lows, insecurities and tribulations one faces without an accompanying 'being a mom' handbook. One of the characters in particular was almost disarmingly parallel to my own experiences. The warm way the characters are drawn by the author really brings you in to the novel making it a compelling read.A very good read.
This was such a beautiful story. Soul to Take is about four women. Vicky, Nell, Shannon, and Sarah, as they venture into motherhood. Helen Bateman did a wonderful job writing the stories of these women. I saw a little bit of myself in each one. There's also a point of view from the soul. As the soul watches these women it must decide which one to choose. It also has memories of past reincarnations which was interesting to read. I don't know if i believe in the whole reincarnation thing, but it
Loved it loved it loved it!I'm seriously tired today because I had to finish this book last night and stayed up way too late!I just love the concept - ingenious!I don't normally write reviews but feel compelled to shout about this one from the rooftops :)I'm about to become a Mum so it may well be the hormones.. This book had me crying, smiling, laughing - generally gripped throughout. I read a fair amount and have a long list of books I have thoroughly enjoyed. None have got me thinking and
